Laser Eye Treatment – The Way Photo Refractive Keratectomy Can Help You Correct Your Vision
Photorefractive Keratectomy, or PRK, is one of the two major forms of laser eye treatment options for individuals with specific problems. This operation is often linked to LASIK, mainly because they are similar to each other in the sense that both aim to correct similar problems. There are certain criteria, though, that stand to help doctors choose which procedure may be more suitable for a certain individual.
The Procedure
PRK starts out with the patient being given local anesthetic in the affected area. The eyelids are held fast by an instrument that basically clamps them and prevents them from blinking.
Due to this, an attendant is at hand to rewet it when necessary. The entire operation lasts for just a few minutes, in reality. This form of laser treatment initially removes the outermost layer of the cornea before laser ablation of the next layer occurs.
There is little risk of the laser making a mistake with regards to ablation because it is attached to a computer that effectively tracks down eye movement and makes precise corrections to each movement. The tracking is dependent on how new and fast the laser is but even older lasers are good enough.
The epithelium of the cornea is actually removed during the procedure, encouraging growth and regeneration of the cornea. Although this means slower healing time compared to LASIK, it also means better chances of proper healing and less risk of side effects. This is because there is not much trauma to the structure of cornea as opposed to the LASIK treatment. Read the rest of this entry »

Pink Eye Treatment
Pink eye treatment is usually fast, safe, and effective. Pink eye is just another name for conjunctivitis, which is an inflammation or infection of the transparent membrane that lines your eyelid and part of your eyeball. The pink or redness occurs because the small blood vessels in the whites of your eyes are now irritated and enlarged.
Pink eye is a condition that is uncomfortable, rather than debilitating, but any problem with our eyes is always hard to ignore. In small children, it can be quite distressing, and that in turn, is distressing for us.
As with all such conditions, the cause of the inflammation is more important than the symptoms. It could be bacterial or viral in origin. Different causes may produce different degrees of particular symptoms. Pink eye treatment should be different, depending on the cause.
The leading cause of a pink eye is a virus infection. A number of different viruses can be responsible for the infection. It is often associated with an infection of the upper respiratory tract, a common cold, and/or a sore throat.
One of the most common early symptoms is discomfort in the eye. A child may complain of “scratchiness”, like there’s something in the eye. The infection usually begins with one eye, but may spread easily to the other.
In addition to redness, symptoms may include itching and a clear or white discharge. Children may also have other viral symptoms, such as a runny nose, cough or sore throat. Viral pink eye symptoms are usually associated with more of a watery discharge that is not green or yellow in color. Read the rest of this entry »
