For a while now I've been using Naviscope to block ads - it's pretty good, but occasionally crashes and is sadly no longer developed.
I've now switched to Proxomitron - despite the name it's very good, does a far better job of ad blocking than Naviscope, and is rock solid. The options are a little intimidating compared to Naviscope, but it's well recommended.
