NASA's Visible Earth site is full of satellite images and animations across Earth.

Google is running a programming contest where they provide a collection of pre-parsed web pages and some code for parsing said pages, and it is up to the programmer to come up with some interesting application of this data. There is the possibility that interesting submissions could make their way into Google. More info here.
