bebabo is written and maintained by Iain Hogg (the handsome chap in the photo).
I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, and enjoy programming, usually in C++, Java or Perl depending on the situation.
These web pages are generated with the aid of tool suite I knocked up over a weekend during the last
redesign of bebabo. I had started out on the redesign and I wanted to keep the same style throughout the web site.
I figured it would be quicker to specify the format and then have a utility to generate pages, create link tables and so on.
Here is the main menu:
What do you want to do?
1. Add new page
2. Update existing page
3. Edit existing page parameters
4. Re-generate page from scratch
5. Add entry to page
6. Enable page
7. Disable page
8. Capture page
I'm quite chuffed with it, and it was quite quick to put together. I've also got a CGI Perl script which allows
me to add log entries to the main page which also updates the archive as neccessary. All written by myself, I
did actually try to find some logging scripts out there - blogger would have been
ample, and some of the earlier pages were put together using it. However, it requires FTP - my current site host Freeola, block FTP unless you're using a Freeola dial
up connection and I wanted to be able to log from work and from my preferred dial up account.
The world is a scary place; one of my best mates has known three people called Iain Hogg in his life, though the other two looked identical. What
are the odds of all that?
